Jennifer and José

It’s not about luck, it’s about science.

Jennifer and José

Hello, we’re Jennifer and José, and this is our story. After a diagnosis of endometriosis, our world fell apart, and that is when our fertility journey began. In 2021, I underwent a laparoscopy with bilateral cystectomy in Cuba, and we thought our path to becoming parents ended there. Even so, we did not want to give up. We arrived in Spain in May 2021 and began an IVF process at a clinic in Valencia. In this first process, we obtained four blastocysts, but after two negative transfers, the third resulted in an ectopic pregnancy, which led to another surgery—this time a bilateral salpingectomy. At that point, we truly believed there were no options left for us. On top of that, my AMH levels were very low, and after visiting the public healthcare system and two private clinics, we came to the conclusion that the best option was egg donation. At first, we did not understand why, but we decided to accept it.

It was at that point that a good friend told us about Equipo Juana Crespo, and we decided to book a consultation—after all, we felt we had nothing left to lose. Tania attended me first and explained very clearly and patiently what the first consultation involved.

After that initial contact, the day of our appointment with Dr. Crespo arrived. We told her our story and said that we simply hadn’t had any luck. She replied with a phrase I will never forget: “Jennifer, it’s not about luck, it’s about science.” What I liked most about that first consultation was her determination, and the fact that she had a clearly defined plan for us. She told me that we needed to modify my uterus, which was retroverted, and that this was the reason for the painful periods I had suffered throughout my life. Among the additional tests requested after that first consultation was an MRI, which revealed that I also had adenomyosis—another diagnosis that made our world fall apart once again. But what helped me get through that moment was knowing that, once again, they had a plan for me. Dr. Crespo explained that after the egg retrieval, I would undergo a hysteroscopy before the transfer to correct all the conditions that had been diagnosed. I admit that at that moment I did not want any more surgery, but I trusted the team that had given me so much confidence.

We left the first consultation with mixed feelings: on the one hand, we were hopeful, but also very afraid. However, as we progressed through the process, all those fears gradually disappeared. On our journey, we were accompanied by Dr. Leisy and Dr. Sara, who were highly professional, as well as the nurses Alba and Raquel, very kind and always willing to help us.

After our previous experiences with beta tests, I lived the days leading up to this one with terrible anxiety and a lot of insecurity. But on June 17, they called us to confirm that I had a positive—and very good—beta. What joy we felt that day! Today I am writing these lines 17 weeks pregnant, and we already know it is a girl. We are taking things one step at a time and getting used to the idea that we are going to be parents—very happy and deeply grateful to the entire team for making our dream come true. We wish all women could have the opportunity to meet this wonderful team, capable of making the impossible possible. For us, they were truly the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you to the whole team for so much care, for your perseverance, for your research, and for the work you do every day.
