We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but they gave us hope again

Our journey with you began in December 2021. We had spent several years struggling in other clinics in our province, Asturias—very tired and discouraged—but after a first consultation with Dr. Crespo, you identified the real problem and finally shed some light on our situation.

Like many other couples, we never imagined we would face so many difficulties in achieving a positive result. I had always been told that everything was perfect, and we first went to a fertility clinic simply because my partner had had a vasectomy. Once that was resolved, we thought everything would go smoothly—but we were wrong.

We started with the basic fertility tests for me and a testicular biopsy for my partner. That was when fibroids were detected, but the clinic we were at assured us that they would not be a problem for getting pregnant. After this first experience, we felt deceived, because they had not spoken to us clearly. That is why we decided to change to another clinic, also in the province.

At this second clinic, we were told that the fibroids had grown, but they decided to continue with the treatment anyway. We obtained three embryos, and one was transferred—with a negative result. The next step, they told us, was to operate on the fibroids—this time for real. So we stopped the treatment, waited for the surgery, and then another six months for a full recovery.

After that time, we carried out a new transfer with the two embryos we had left. This time, the result was positive, but when we went for the ultrasound, it was an anembryonic pregnancy. At that moment, our world fell apart. I was prescribed vaginal medication to expel everything, and it was horrible—we went through a very hard time. I kept expelling tissue for a long time and had repeated follow-up ultrasounds, as the clinic assured me that this would be enough. But then came another disappointment: I did not manage to expel everything, and in August I finally had to undergo a curettage, even though the anembryonic pregnancy had been diagnosed in May. We lost very valuable time and felt completely lost—but at that point, we still didn’t know that the worst was yet to come. Our surprise was even greater when, at the first check-up after the curettage, we were told that I had hydrosalpinx. From that moment on, we felt completely hopeless—we had no idea what to do or where to go next.

Finally, and thanks to a friend’s recommendation, we decided to put some distance between us and our situation and book a first consultation at Equipo Juana Crespo. It was the best decision we could have made. At that first visit, we already had a diagnosis and a clear strategy to achieve pregnancy. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but they gave us hope again.

With the right mindset and renewed excitement, we began the treatment. We repeated the egg retrieval—this time at Equipo Juana Crespo—and obtained a large number of good-quality embryos, which were frozen until I was ready.

Once I had fully recovered, in May 2022 we returned to Valencia to undergo reproductive surgery to restore fertility. I had a laparoscopic salpingectomy, and they also removed another fibroid and performed additional procedures. In short, they left everything in perfect condition so that the embryos we had safely stored would have the best possible place to implant. After the surgery, I took a few months to rest and recover. In September, we returned to Valencia with renewed energy and eager to reunite with our embryos. The first transfer resulted in a positive beta. We are writing these lines with our little one in our arms. We will never have enough words to thank this team—thanks to you, we have met the love of our lives.
